Scanning and Analysing Your Environment
This workshop will help you to understand how to envision the future as part of different scenarios for regional, national, and international contexts. Participants will explore the uncertainties in their environment and use these uncertainties to develop plausible images of the future. Tools will be provided to anticipate the impact of alternative future scenarios. Participants will learn how to understand the present and prepare more effectively for future strategies. This workshop will be hosted by David Carrington.
Dr. David Carrington is a Lecturer in Strategy and Programme Director for BSc Business & Management at Aston Business School, Birmingham, U.K. David completed his PhD at Aston University, U.K. in 2017 focusing on managerial and organizational cognition during crises. This longitudinal study used a variety of cognitive research methods with a particular focus on causal cognitive mapping through depth interviews. David’s research interests are in sensemaking, consensus, strategic cognition, and cognitive shifts. He currently has two published articles in The Leadership Quarterly as well as contributing author to Leader Thinking Skills: Capacities for Contemporary Leadership. David is also a Non-Executive Director of a medium-sized organisation and prior to academia was a Strategy Executive. David is currently the module leader for Strategic Management which is the capstone module for all final year Aston Business School undergraduate students.
